"The Virgin understands the mystery of total surrender," he went on. and having loved and suffered, she freed us from pain. In the same way that Jesus freed us from sin.
By The River Pierda I Sat Down And Wept - Paulo Coelho.

HANDMAIDEN [2]
The Virgin, written in the mind of God,
She, who is chosen, and fashioned to will,
Understands, her task at hand;
Mystery of total surrender,
To time unfolded, and time yet unraveled;
Time it is, resounds in her - Yes

~His love inflames her before her being completes~

After she has been his resident thought,
She it is, who is vessel of honour;
The innocent lamb thus, is born for a world,
The perfect sacrifice from a world,
Where only himself begotten, can cleanse,
Can heal, and grant mercy to disobedience.

  1. "...perfect sacrifice..." Such a complex (and contradictory) notion. It reminds me of the words of a former military commander, who while standing in front of the scattered remains of one of my friends, said, "He had the perfect death."

    1. Yes Magaly, I can well image his relatives and friends asking the question of death where lies the victory.
      Life is what we know even if we are unsure of its measure.

  4. This reads like a hymn that needs to be sung in quaint church, tucked away in the countryside.

  5. Such a nice poem concerning the Virgin Mary and her role. Complete too. Jesus was a special son to her, in his dying moments he still made arrangements for her well being.

  6. I love the idea of her being 'written in the mind of God'; and that, while chosen, she at the same time chose her own surrender.
